Vacation Bible School - Sunday School Craft ideas
The creativity of the church craft projects is vital. You want the kids to be happy, but more important you want them to be occupied for a long enough amount of time. You also want the project to be easy enough to accomplish, but not too difficult as to discourage them. It's a balancing act, but there are several easy craft ideas out there!
Start with popsicle sticks. Younger children can make a cross. Yes, it's basic, but they like to color. With a little prep time on the coordinators part you can make this into a Christmas ornament. If you're working with older children, get creative - make a church or Noah's Ark. Again, a little glue can go a long way.
Coloring Projects. There are several great online sites to find religious coloring sheets. Coordinate with the story they are learning about, mix it up with paint or crayons. It's simple and kids will love it. You can also take it one step further and make the poster for wrapping paper for a special Christmas present to be brought home!
Group projects. The one project I still remember coordinating was a mural. It was for vacation bible school and it was an undertaking, however, it stayed on the wall for over a year at our church. I made a huge puzzle. Cut it out from white butcher paper. I used a standard piece of paper, but I created the notches on the sides, traced on the large paper, then cut out. Note: on the back side I numbered the pieces so I could easily assemble the 25' long mural. Then each child in the vacation bible school class colored an individual piece. The theme of the project was to get each student to realize they were a piece that made up the larger puzzle. Again, it was a lot of prep time, but well received by the parents.
The crafts for church do not have to be expensive. Use your creativity and you'll be a success!
